The stuff between {} is what you need supply to execute the command.
For example.
Register your nick
/msg chanserv REGISTER {password} {email Address}
You need to give a password, so no one else can use the nick beside you. The email address is used to send you a link, which you need to paste in the server window to confirm registeration
Changing you nick
/nick {newNickname}
Request a new Vhost
/msg hostserv request {your.desired.vhost}
The Ghost Command
/msg nickserv ghost {nick} {password}
If someone else is using your nick, you can kill him/her from the server.
